This not-quite-dating phase may work in college, due to the unique lifestyle of a student. However, that’s no excuse to carry this dating purgatory into the real world. Besides our time, people in our generation love independence so much that the idea of having any commitment to another person makes many of us feel nervous. Gen Z, comprising people born in the late 1990s and early 2000s, is seen as the most sexually liberated ever.
It was something I did just for fun, but everyone around me saw it as an actual gift. It became a real moment for me when I first got recognized for my work on “Black-ish” at the NAACP Image Awards at the age of 11. I realized how my work not only impacted the other young Black girls watching me, but myself as a child actor and growing my confidence in the entertainment industry. This Black History Month, I sought to launch “Young, Gifted and Black,” a series spotlighting Hollywood’s up-and-coming Black Gen Zers in entertainment. Gen Zers and Millennials have similar viewpoints on many major issues of the day
Rather than focusing on each generation specifically, this collection takes an intergenerational approach, placing them in dialogue with one another by focusing on media and experiences that are geared toward both. In this context, some women, like A., seized the opportunity to have sex without relationships, preferring “hookup buddies” to boyfriends.
They found that the women from wealthier backgrounds were much more likely to hook up, more interested in postponing adult responsibilities and warier of serious romantic commitment than their less-affluent classmates. There is judgment from other women, too — two women said they had been rejected from sororities because of their sexual reputations. And technology has made it easier to spread gossip. One woman recalled a guy showing her an e-mail he had received on his fraternity Listserv, in which another guy described having sex with a girl in the bathroom at a club.
They may be competitive with others or with themselves. The basis that hookup culture was formed on, is to put in as little effort into a person and only for the pleasure of oneself. This has created an even easier way for someone to find easy sex where they do not need to think about their partner. We as feminists must do better in being supportive and non-judgemental of women who are uncomfortable partaking in hook-up culture and not silence those who have had a bad experience in it. We shouldn’t blame women for men’s bad behavior (too many people say women must filter hook-ups better, putting the onus back on women to be sexual gatekeepers).

Gen Zers and Millennials are less likely than older generations to say that single women raising children on their own is a bad thing for society. Still, relatively few in both generations say this is a good thing for society, while about half say it doesn’t make much difference . There are already signs that the oldest Gen Zers have been particularly hard hit in the early weeks and months of the coronavirus crisis. In a March 2020 Pew Research Center survey, half of the oldest Gen Zers reported that they or someone in their household had lost a job or taken a cut in pay because of the outbreak. This was significantly higher than the shares of Millennials (40%), Gen Xers (36%) and Baby Boomers (25%) who said the same. In addition, an analysis of jobs data showed that young workers were particularly vulnerable to job loss before the coronavirus outbreak, as they were overrepresented in high-risk service sector industries.
Yeah I agree with pretty much everything you said. I think I summed it down cuz I didn’t know how to say what I was thinking. I think women should be able to do whatever they want and absolutely have their own agency and freedom. However we live in a patriarchy and the society we are born into governs our choices, no matter who we are, we fall victim to it.
Life
So many people believe that they know what Gen Z consists of but we will have to set the stereotypes aside that they are the streaming generation. There have been times where Gen Z freelancers come in and it is hard for us to have a real conversation because the daypasser was too busy streaming during lunch time and it is almost impossible to get them to get off the screen. “Gossip Girl” changed my life for the better in every aspect imaginable. It provided me with confidence to pursue a career I’ve always been intimidated by, but always knew deep inside was meant for me.
